Angela's story

Angela is a semi-retired carer from the West Midlands, supporting both her elderly Black Caribbean parents who live nearby. Her mum, 82, is partially sighted with multiple health conditions, and her dad, 90, lives alone and needs regular help.

To make life easier, Angela uses smart tools like Alexa for reminders, Blink cameras for check-ins, and a Samsung tablet for video calls. Her dad stays connected via iPhone, while Angela uses ChatGPT Plus to organise care and draft letters.

These tools help her parents feel safer and more independent, while Angela saves time and worries less. Tech isn’t perfect—Wi-Fi drops and tricky voice commands can be frustrating—but Angela always checks key advice with professionals.

Her top tip: start small, be clear, and use tech to support—not replace—your care. She hopes future tools will be simpler and more affordable and encourages other carers to give them a try.
