If you design or commission AI tools, here’s what people want you to know:

  • Don’t assume – ask us what we need
  • Test with real people – not just in labs
  • Make things simple and accessible
  • Think about people with limited speech, sight, or movement
  • Don’t replace care with tech – support care with tech
  • Share how it works Use plain English – not everyone understands the jargon
  • Listen to feedback – and change what doesn’t work

People with lived experience should shape the design, testing and review of all AI used in care and support.
