Pete's story

“AI didn’t replace my care—it extended my independence and helped me feel seen"

After being diagnosed with tongue cancer in 2025, Pete used a combination of AI and digital tools to manage his recovery. ChatGPT helped him understand medical terminology, prepare questions for appointments, and process his experience through reflective journaling.

A smartwatch and health tracker app monitored his weight, sleep, and symptoms daily. When speaking was difficult, he used voice-to-text and symptom logging tools to maintain communication and control.

These technologies became quiet companions—supporting memory, reducing anxiety, and enabling Pete to remain engaged with both his care and his professional role in adult social care.

The tools weren’t perfect—especially when clinical systems didn’t join up—but they made a meaningful difference.
