Guest Co-Facilitator: Holly Cooper
Holly Cooper (they/them) is a community historian, researcher and activist. They are a full-time Mental Health Development Worker and Social Advocate at The Pod, a secondary mental health social brokerage and cultural hub.
In their role, they work with citizens on a 1-to-1 basis to curate a unique wellbeing journey that builds individual, organisational and/or societal capacity for creativity, innovation, compassion and activism, asserting the importance of cultivating authentic connection with the city.
They are a final year DPhil student in History at the University of Oxford, researching twentieth-century Black Caribbean community histories of Coventry and Warwickshire. Holly previously completed their masters in Black British History at Goldsmiths, receiving a distinction.
They favour Black radical methodologies in their work, and work to uncover marginalised histories outside of the metropole.
Holly has also worked on a series of research projects, most recently the Oxford/UCL joint project ‘A Portrait of Empire, Migration, and Belonging in English Secondary schools’ where they explored the significance of community-school partnerships for the teaching of curriculum sensitive topics such as empire and race. They have previously worked with the AHRC, Goldsmiths, University of London and King’s College London.
