There has been a 17.5% increase in DoLS applications in the region with 34,755 applications in the year 2022-23 of which 33,220 were completed. This is above the national average of 11%.
Of the completed applications, 17,575 were not granted of which 575 did not meet the criteria, 12,080 change of circumstances (most likely reason discharge from hospital) and 4465 died.
12,110 applications were outstanding at year end compared with 9,925 the previous year (22% increase) . The national backlog is 126,050 compared with 122,095 the previous year.
