Principal Occupational Therapists

WM ADASS launched its Principal Occupational Therapists Network in 2018. The Network includes adult social care Principal Occupational Therapists or equivalent in our 14 councils along with representation from key partners.

During 2025/26 the Network has been supporting councils in the region with:

Strengthening prevention and reablement

Councils across the region have demonstrated the impact of OT‑led triage and early intervention models. These approaches have reduced waiting lists, improved access to timely support, and delivered better outcomes for people and carers. The annual OT update showcases strong evidence that embedding OTs in frontline decision‑making leads to more preventative, cost‑effective care.

Supporting CQC Assurance and OT Leadership

With CQC’s renewed focus on prevention, wellbeing and independence, OTs have become central to assurance planning. Councils with well‑resourced OT services show improved performance and lower crisis demand. The network has supported members to share learning and align OT practice with CQC expectations.

Sharing National Best Practice

This year the network consolidated key national insights from the LGA, NHS England and the IMPACT demonstrator project. These resources aim to help local authorities strengthen workforce planning, integration, and OT leadership.
